At Student Housing Impact Fund Africa (SHIFA), we believe that access to quality education should not be hindered by a lack of safe, affordable accommodation. Our Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) strategy is designed to create a lasting positive impact by providing secure, dignified, and well-located housing to students who, without NSFAS funding, would not have the opportunity to pursue tertiary education.

We recognize the importance of sustainable development in student housing and are actively working towards integrating green building initiatives into our properties. Our future plans include:
- Solar power installations to reduce reliance on the grid and lower carbon footprints
- Solar water heating systems for energy-efficient geysers
- Greywater recycling to promote responsible water usage

Enabling Access to Higher Education
SHIFA is committed to bridging the gap in student accommodation by ensuring that students funded by NSFAS have a safe, comfortable, and conducive living environment while pursuing their studies. Unlike commercial student housing providers, we align our tariffs strictly with NSFAS funding rather than market-related rates. This commitment ensures that financially disadvantaged students can access quality housing without financial strain.
All our properties adhere to the Department of Higher Education and Training’s (DHET) minimum norms and standards for student accommodation, ensuring that students live in spaces designed to support their academic success and personal well-being. Our residences offer:
- 24-hour security for a safe living environment
- No mixed-sex rooms, fostering safety and respect
- Proximity to universities and essential amenities to reduce commuting challenges
